Thanks to #squarepegday and #ournormal I started to think about what the normality of my family is and it's not for the faint-hearted...
Climbing:
Houdini loves to climb. He has no fear of danger and is as agile as a little spider monkey. He was very young when he first scaled the sides of his cot and extra-high stair gates posed no issue. He sees the apex of the shed roof and his Jungle Gym as a minor challenge.
The trees in our garden have been felled. A wooden perimeter fence has been erected with no gaps for little hands or feet to gain leverage. These adjustments arise from necessity often after the boy has literally bolted.
We did not think, when installing a new kitchen a few years ago, that our ladder style radiator would be used as exactly that resulting in Houdini scaling his way to the top of the cupboards to pour wine down the back of the fridge. Live and learn!

Organisation:
Houdini stlll loves to line objects up from spoons to DVDs to bottles of Domestos to setting up straight lines of chairs in the garden and saying "Muppet Show". This boy likes order ... sometimes.
He also enjoys making a mess. Whether it be scattering lego (always a joy to stand on at night), throwing water or dry breakfast cereal, he likes to see how things fall and float through the air.

Hoarding:
Houdini finds comfort in having his "stuff" around him which usually means wading through masses of McDonalds happy meal boxes to find his wardrobe. He also likes to empty his room of a morning to transport the entire contents downstairs.

Absconding:
Fight and flight instincts are very strong with Houdini and although we haven't had a major incident requiring police intervention for some time, we are always on high alert and attempt to have better home security than Fort Knox.
